About U Mhlahlo

U Mhlahlo emerged from the grassroots efforts of the Inter-Cultural minorities of Matabeleland in response to the atrocities of the Gukurahundi. Since June 2006, we have been dedicated to uniting our community, addressing the historical injustices faced, and advocating for the rights of the Matabele people. Together, we strive to create a resilient and empowered community, fostering healing and solidarity among survivors and victims of past conflicts.

U Mhlahlo is a community-based organization that emerged from the struggle of the Inter-Cultural minorities in Matabeleland/Mthwakazi since its dismantlement during the colonial times. Our aim is to support and advocate for the fundamental rights, self - determination and recognition of the Matabeleland/Mthwakazi community.

U Mhlahlo was established to address the injustices faced by the Matabeleland/Mthwakazi community since the coming of colonization to the Gukurahundi operations crossing over to present day challenges. It serves as a platform for survivors and victims of this tragedy to unite, share their experiences, and work towards communal healing and justice.

U Mhlahlo provides support through various initiatives such as legal advocacy, mental health support, educational programs, and community engagement projects that aim to empower the Matabeleland community and foster resilience.

Our long-term goals include raising awareness of the historical injustices, promoting reconciliation and healing within the community, and ensuring that the rights of Matabeleland/Mthwakazi people are recognized and protected including self determination ..
